Loved the book! Gave a great feel for the times, and made the people "real". Loved the details and authenticity of the chores, farming practices etc. , all the struggles of surviving that we seldom have to concern ourselves with anymore. I would highly recommend it! My only complaint is that the sequel is not available yet!
Loved this book. It is clearly very well-researched but is at the same time an interesting and quick read. The story draws you in immediately and stays with you as the characters come to life over many years.
I hope there's a part II!
Once I started the book I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what happened to each of the sisters and how their lives turn out. It was a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience. I highly recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this book. My ancestors lived in the surrounding communities and this story helped to give me a sense of what their lives would have been like during this time frame. Thank you Mrs. Marquard for all the time and effort that you put into writing this book. It is a treasure.
E very bit of this book was a joy to read! And not every historical novel is. The author reAlly talent as she lovingly describes the hardships and the ambitions of these German immigrants who settled in the tiny country community in Ohio in the mid 1800's.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well written ad totally captivating. The trials that this family endured and the way that they fought together to overcome their hurdles and tragedies is amazing.
This is a great narrative of life in a particular time and place. I am related to people in this book, but even if I wasn’t, it was a good story. I hope there is a sequel!
